bridal head piece

This bridal headpiece began with a damaged antique brooch that I believe dated from the Victorian era. Although the original piece could no longer be worn as intended, it featured a beautiful large pale citrine that deserved a new life in a contemporary design.

Rather than simply repairing the brooch, I chose to reimagine it as a unique bridal accessory. I designed and fabricated a substantial silver comb to support the original centrepiece, allowing the citrine to become the focal point of the headpiece. To create balance and movement, I added delicate chains extending from the main section to a complementary floral decoration positioned alongside it.

The secondary floral element was designed to echo the style of the original brooch while introducing new handcrafted details. At its centre, I added a small accent of 18ct yellow gold, chosen to reflect the warm golden tones of the citrine and create a visual connection between the two sections of the design.

This project was a wonderful example of transforming a damaged heirloom into something entirely new while preserving the character and beauty of the original piece. The finished headpiece combined antique charm with contemporary craftsmanship, allowing a historic gemstone to become part of a new story on a wedding day.

The making process, including footage of the original brooch before its transformation, is documented in a YouTube video, while additional views of the completed headpiece can be seen on Instagram.
